Eclipse Season is here! March 24-25, 2024 there will be a penumbral lunar eclipse at approximately 3:13am EST. In a penumbral eclipse, the lighter outer part of Earth’s shadow falls on the moon. So this is a subtle kind of eclipse.
This Lunar eclipse begins the eclipse season during which we’ll also have the April 8, 2024, total eclipse of the Sun … shortly due to be seen by millions in North America!
Rudolf Steiner offers us this; “In an eclipse of the Moon the earth comes between the sun and the moon; hence we see the shadow cast upon the moon by the earth. That is the physical explanation. But in this case also the old initiate knew that a spiritual reality was behind the physical fact.”
With Wisdom filled thinking receive the thought of eclipses as “safety valves”. Rudolf Steiner offers this wisdom, “Eclipses of the sun and moon, recurring as they do in the course of every year, may really be looked upon as “safety-valves.” A safety-valve is there to avert danger, to provide an outlet for something or other — steam, for instance — at the right moment. The safety-valve during the lunar eclipse, exists for the purpose of allowing the evil thoughts which are present in the cosmos to approach those human beings who are desirous of being possessed by them. In matters of this kind people do not, as a rule, act in full consciousness, but the facts are nevertheless real — just as real as the attraction of a magnet for small particles of iron.”
In sidereal astrology we have this lunar eclipse with the Moon standing before Virgo and the Sun standing before Pisces. Let’s look at the Spiritual Hierarchies dwelling within these constellations. In Virgo we have the Kyriotetes, Spirits of Wisdom. In Pisces we have the Tenth Hierarchy, Spirits of Freedom and Love, you could say that it is humanity’s great mission to bring freedom into the world, and, along with freedom, what we call in the truest sense of the word ‘love’. For without freedom, love is impossible.
This all happening on the South Node where we may allow natural releases of past life energy, past karma, old beliefs or patterns that no longer serve us. To act in full consciousness with the wisdom of Virgo cheering us on, where we can listen, be aware of what is coming towards us to bring karmic resolution, may we receive from Pisces the peace of doing less, less action, let it be and allow what is passing to pass gentle into that good night. These natural releases with an awakened consciousness allows us to receive the spiritual guidance to make shifts and changes. Nurturing more of the healthier qualities of Virgo, analytical, improvement, refinement, and organization; and in healthy ways release over perfectionism, over analyzing, improve self-control, finding an inner balance. To also consider how we serve the world and our own nurturing self-care. Here we have further potential to return to our higher human nature out of freedom and love with consciously awakened wisdom.
